Verizon’s website says affected customers will receive a text message alerting them that their $20 is available, and once it is they will have to sign on to the company’s app to “accept” it. This requirement is a frequent source of complaint on social media, and rightly so.
New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta were the primary affected areas of the Verizon outage, according to the outage map by Mashable. If you were affected, believe you are eligible, and have not received a credit, contact Verizon through their support page, and make sure to cite the affected area when contacting the network.
Verizon says a software problem caused the glitch and it is conducting a postmortem, but experts say outages are "a fact of life" these days.
